Once, a Kingdom was stricken by sever famine. All the citizens in the Kingdom were worried. A kindhearted farmer could not bear to see this condition of his fellowmen. So, he ploughed his farm, took out all the edible bulbs and roots and started distributing them among all the men, women and children.
His neighbouring farmer was a miser. He said to the first farmer. "Why have you become so much philanthropic. Fist of all, you look for 'yourself". the first one just smiled and kept quiet.
After some days, the famine was over. it started raining heavily. The first farmer's field was already ploughed and he got its advantages. On the contrary the second one suffered loss as his field was not ploughed and the deeply rooted bulbs started rotting.
At the time of sowing, all those people who had got help from the first farmer during the famine,. now came forward to help him. The condition of the second one was very pitiable.
Then the first one said to his neighbour, "have you seen how being philanthropic never leads to any loss. On the contrary, a self-centric person of mean mentality always suffers!"
Moral: Fruits of philanthropy are always good. There is no disgrace in it.
